Eva-Jane Willis recently opened up about the return of a key character in FBI: International and how it played a crucial role in solving a murder case in the latest episode.
Important Relationships Drive the Plot
In the February 11 episode, Veritas Fidelis, Willis’s character, Megan “Smitty” Garretson, discovers a murder case at her old university in the U.K. The Fly Team identifies the killer, but the suspect escapes on his father’s private plane. Smitty then calls her former mentor, Katrin Jaeger (Christiane Paul), for help. Jaeger, now stationed in Germany, steps in and helps detain the murderer.
Willis shared her excitement about the return of Jaeger, saying, “It’s so fantastic when relationships like that — important relationships — are continued and not forgotten throughout the seasons.” She emphasized how significant the mentorship between Smitty and Jaeger was, shaping Smitty into the agent she is today.
Mentorship That Shaped Smitty’s Career
When Smitty first joined the team, Jaeger mentored her, teaching her the ropes of the job. Eventually, Jaeger recommended Smitty to take over when she moved on to a new role. The return of Jaeger brought back the strong mentor-mentee bond, and it was this relationship that allowed Smitty to act quickly and capture the murderer.

Willis pointed out the episode’s theme of powerful women working together. “It’s almost like three generations of powerful women,” she said, with Smitty and Jaeger teaming up to take down the criminal and expose the toxic male-dominated world behind Emma’s murder.

For Smitty, solving Emma’s case was deeply personal. She felt a strong connection to Emma, seeing her as a “kindred spirit.” This bond motivated Smitty to finish what Emma couldn’t — bringing justice to the victim and herself.
