Gunfire struck a U.S. Park Police officer in Southeast Washington, D.C., on Monday evening. Fortunately, officials report the officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The D.C. Police Union quickly confirmed the incident online. Authorities are currently conducting a massive investigation to locate the suspect.
The Incident and Road Closures
The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the 5000 block of Queens Stroll Place SE. Local authorities immediately shut down multiple blocks. They restricted both vehicle and pedestrian access to secure the active crime scene.
The Metropolitan Police Department established heavy closures along Benning Road SE. They also blocked off nearby residential streets, including the 4600 block of Hillside Road SE. Officials urge the public to completely avoid the affected zones and follow all police directions.
Officials Respond to the Attack
Law enforcement agencies across the capital expressed their support for the wounded officer. The D.C. Police Union posted a statement on X asking the community to send prayers to the officer and their family.
FBI Director Kash Patel also addressed the violence online. He stated that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is actively supporting the local probe. Patel promised to work alongside law enforcement partners to bring the shooter to justice.
