Tommy DeCarlo, the powerhouse vocalist who stepped in to lead the legendary rock band Boston in 2007, has died at the age of 60. His daughter, Talia, confirmed to Fox News Digital that DeCarlo passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, following a courageous six-month fight against brain cancer.

A Sudden Health Crisis
DeCarlo’s health battle began unexpectedly in September 2025 when he suffered a sudden brain bleed. During an emergency craniotomy, surgeons discovered two melanoma masses on his brain and another spot on his lungs.
Despite the grim diagnosis, his family shared that he fought with “incredible strength and courage.” A GoFundMe page created by his wife, Annie, and his children in December detailed his intensive recovery process and inpatient therapy, though he ultimately succumbed to the illness after multiple hospitalizations.
From Home Depot to Rock Stardom
DeCarlo’s journey to the frontman of one of the world’s most successful rock bands is a modern-day fairy tale. Before joining the group, he was working as a credit manager at a local Home Depot.
Following the tragic death of original Boston lead singer Brad Delp in 2007, DeCarlo posted covers of the band’s hits to his MySpace page. His uncanny vocal resemblance to Delp caught the attention of band founder Tom Scholz, leading to an invitation to join the group for a tribute concert and, eventually, a permanent role as lead singer.
A Legacy of Performance
For nearly two decades, DeCarlo toured the world, bringing hits like “More Than a Feeling” and “Peace of Mind” to life for a new generation of fans. His family has requested privacy as they grieve, describing him as a “fighter” who gave the battle everything he had.
Understanding the complexities of Brain Cancer and Melanoma is a priority for many fans today, as the aggressive nature of the disease took the musician just six months after his initial symptoms appeared.
