Tom Cruise recently praised his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, calling her a “great actress.” He shared that he recommended her for the role in Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut.
The film, released in 1999, follows Cruise’s character, Dr. Bill Harford, as he learns from his wife, Alice Harford (Kidman), that she had once considered having an affair.
Cruise remembered meeting Kubrick to discuss the film: “I flew out to his house and landed in his backyard. I read the script the day before. We spent the day talking about it. I knew all of Kubrick’s films,” Cruise told Sight and Sound magazine.
He added, “As we got to know each other, I suggested Nicole for the role of Alice. She’s obviously a great actress.”

Cruise, 62, was eager to be part of the project. He told Kubrick, “Whatever it takes, we’re doing this.”
Cruise and Kidman were married from 1990 to 2001. They adopted two children: Isabella “Bella” Cruise, 32, and Connor Cruise, 30.
Kidman’s latest project is Babygirl. Cruise will appear in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which opens in India on May 17.
