Ongoing Immigration Battle
Simon Guobadia, the estranged husband of Porsha Williams, remains in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) one month after his detention. According to records from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Guobadia is currently held at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia.
His status is officially listed as “in ICE custody,” signaling ongoing legal proceedings. His detainment aligns with recent policy changes under President Donald Trump’s mass deportation plan, which enforces stricter measures against undocumented immigrants. The policy, signed into effect earlier this year, allows for the deportation of individuals without legal status in the U.S.
Legal Troubles and Past Deportation
Guobadia, 60, originally immigrated from Nigeria in 1982 but overstayed his visa. After a brief departure, he returned to the U.S. in 1986 on a work visa, which he also allegedly overstayed. In 1987, he faced legal issues after being arrested for bank and credit card fraud. Following two additional arrests, Guobadia was deported in 1992. However, he managed to return to the U.S. just a month later.
In 2016, Guobadia applied for U.S. citizenship, but his request was denied. Earlier this year, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) rejected another attempt, leading to heightened scrutiny over his immigration status.

Porsha Williams’ Response
Williams, 43, acknowledged the situation in a public statement in February, expressing disappointment over the circumstances. “It’s disheartening to see my estranged husband make choices that have led to this outcome,” she stated. “At this moment, my priority is moving forward with my family.”
Despite his legal battles, Guobadia publicly celebrated his four decades in America via an Instagram post in February 2024. However, his future in the U.S. now remains uncertain as immigration authorities continue reviewing his case.
