Nag Ashwin unveils the connection between Prabhas-starrer “Kalki 2898 AD” and Mahabharat

Director Nag Ashwin and actor-producer Rana Daggubati made an appearance at the Synapse 2024 event in Gurgaon. During the event, Nag shared intriguing insights about his forthcoming film “Kalki 2898 AD,” featuring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles.

When questioned about the film’s timeline, Nag openly shared, “The film commences with Mahabharat and concludes in 2898 AD. It covers a span of 6000 years. We aimed to construct worlds, envisioning their characteristics while maintaining an Indian essence, steering clear of a Blade Runner appearance.” Further elaborating on the timeline, he stated, “Going back 6000 years from 2898 AD brings us to 3102 BC, the time believed to be when the last avatar of Krishna passed.”

Director Nag Ashwin hinted at the use of AI in Prabhas-Starrer movie Kalki 2898 AD

OpenAI’s Sora is sparking widespread discussion, as numerous netizens engage in experimenting with crafting scenes and entire universes using the platform. Nag, however, mentioned that he hasn’t yet experimented with the AI. He explained that he’s occupied with preparations for his film’s release on May 9. Nag assured that he will “try it out soon.”

However, he questioned whether AI can create something as ‘magical’ as creations imbued with a human touch. He expressed, “We had to construct numerous sets, designs, and vehicles for this film. It was an extensive process involving ideation, conceptualization, prototyping, machinery, and aging.

If I had used Sora, I wouldn’t have needed to undergo this. It could have been just a prompt, and I wouldn’t have required VFX,” he explained. He added, “I am also contemplating whether, in the midst of this struggle, some magic might emerge. Because we spend months refining this, something new might transpire. If it’s as simple as a prompt, are you overlooking something as a creator?”
