Millie Bobby Brown Slams Harsh Criticism of Her Looks: “This Is Bullying”

Millie Bobby Brown is speaking out against the relentless scrutiny of her appearance.

The Stranger Things star, 21, addressed the issue in an emotional Instagram video on Monday, March 3. She called out media outlets and online critics for obsessively dissecting her looks in a way she finds disturbing.

“I want to take a moment to address something that is bigger than just me—something that affects every young woman growing up under public scrutiny,” Brown wrote, sharing a transcript of her video message.

“I started in this industry when I was 10 years old. Growing up in front of the world should not mean being stuck in time. Yet, people expect me to look the same as I did in Stranger Things Season 1. Because I don’t, I’ve become a target.”

Calling Out Toxic Media Narratives

Brown pointed to recent headlines that, in her view, aim to tear young women down. Articles with titles such as “Why Are Gen Zers Like Millie Bobby Brown Aging So Badly?” and “What Has Millie Bobby Brown Done to Her Face?” serve as examples of this negativity.

She also criticized a piece titled “Little Britain’s Matt Lucas Takes Savage Swipe at Millie Bobby Brown’s New ‘Mommy Makeover’ Look.” Rather than questioning why a grown man would mock a young woman’s appearance, the article amplified the insult.

“This Isn’t Journalism—This Is Bullying”

Brown didn’t hold back in her response.

“This isn’t journalism. It’s bullying. Writers—many of them adults—are spending time dissecting my face, my body, and my choices. That’s disturbing. Even worse, some of these articles are written by women.”

She highlighted the hypocrisy of the situation:

“People often talk about supporting and uplifting young women. But when the time comes, tearing them down for clicks seems easier. Disillusioned individuals struggle to accept that a girl can grow into a woman on her own terms, not theirs.”

“I Refuse to Apologize for Growing Up”

The Enola Holmes actress made it clear that she won’t be pressured into conforming.

“I refuse to apologize for growing up. I won’t make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of those who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman. My appearance, my clothing, and my choices are mine alone.”

She also criticized the overall negativity on social media:

“Criticism comes so much easier than compliments. Why is the instinct to say something cruel rather than kind? If that bothers you, ask yourself—why does this make you uncomfortable?”

A Call for Change

Brown concluded with a powerful message:

“Let’s do better. Not just for me, but for every young girl who deserves to grow up without fear of being torn apart for simply existing.”

Not the First Time She’s Spoken Out

This isn’t the first time Millie Bobby Brown has addressed criticism of her looks.

In January 2025, she clapped back at internet trolls who claimed she looked older than her age. Posting on Instagram Stories, she wrote:

“Women grow!! Not sorry about it :).”

Just last week, she subtly responded to similar comments by resharing a British Vogue article titled, “No One Cares How Old You Think Millie Bobby Brown Looks.” She simply added, “Thank you.”
