The beloved Walking Dead alum will reprise his iconic role as The Punisher in the upcoming Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This marks the very first time Bernthal’s gritty vigilante will appear in a feature-length Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie.

A Record-Breaking Trailer Debut

The internet absolutely exploded this week when the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day dropped. The teaser racked up a staggering 718.6 million global views within its first 24 hours.

The trailer finally confirmed months of rumors by giving fans their first look at Bernthal in action. In a brief but unforgettable clip, Frank Castle literally runs over Spider-Man with his iconic Punisher van. Spidey manages to temporarily subdue the hardened vigilante and tells him to go home, teasing a highly entertaining, dysfunctional dynamic between the two heroes.

From TV to the Silver Screen

Fans widely consider Bernthal to be the definitive live-action Punisher. He first debuted the character in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil before headlining two seasons of his own spinoff series.

While Frank Castle has been a staple of Marvel Television for a decade, he has never stepped foot in an MCU movie until now.

This highly anticipated cinematic debut comes right in the middle of a massive Punisher renaissance. Bernthal is already set to return in the upcoming Disney Plus revival Daredevil: Born Again, and he will also headline his own Special Presentation on the streaming service this summer.

Life After The Walking Dead

Bernthal first became a household name playing the deeply complex Shane Walsh on The Walking Dead. Although he only appeared in the first two seasons, his performance left a massive, lasting impression on the fandom.

Since leaving the zombie apocalypse behind, he has built an incredible resume. He starred in massive hits like Baby Driver, The Bear, and The Accountant. Now, taking his most famous TV role to the big screen is simply the next spectacular chapter in his career.
