Jax Taylor has opened up about a deeply personal chapter in his life — his 3-year-old son Cruz’s autism diagnosis. In a heartfelt interview with Extra, Jax, 45, shared that he and estranged wife Brittany Cartwright have known for some time.
“My little boy is amazing. He’s so beautiful, so smart. But he’s obviously got some issues with autism,” Jax said. “Brittany and I were just trying to figure out how and when to share this with the world.”
Brittany’s Side: “I’ve Never Heard Him Say, ‘I Love You’”
Earlier that day, Brittany spoke to People Magazine and revealed that Cruz was officially diagnosed six months ago by a developmental pediatrician. She described their journey with early intervention and admitted how emotionally difficult it’s been.
“He’s mostly nonverbal, but he’s so loving,” Brittany said. “I’ve never heard him say, ‘I love you,’ but he shows me every single day in his own way.”
Currently, she’s focusing on therapies and early development. “This is the time his brain is forming. I want to do everything possible to help him live a full and joyful life.”
Brittany, 36, also opened up about her emotional journey, noting that Cruz is mostly nonverbal. “He’ll say different words here and there,” she said. “It’s difficult because I’ve never heard him say, ‘I love you.’ But he shows it every day in his own way. He’s such a mommy’s boy.”
Right now, she’s focused on early intervention — a key step in helping Cruz thrive. “This is when his brain is developing. I want to make sure I do everything I can to help him live the happiest life possible.”
Jax Wants to Be a Voice in the Autism Community
Jax didn’t just speak about his son — he also vowed to become part of the larger autism support network.
“I want to be involved in everything — charities, awareness campaigns, emotional support,” he said. “I truly feel like this is a sign that I need to step up and be part of this world.”
