Hollywood’s Most Iconic Celebrity Siblings

For the most part, television shows have done a great job of portraying sibling relationships. There’s Monica and Ross Geller from Friends, who have showcased how strong a bond can be between a brother and sister. Schitt’s Creek gave viewers the hilarious relationship between spoiled brats, Alexis and David Rose. And, of course, there’s Bart and Lisa Simpson of The Simpsons, whose relationship is just like any sibling relationship – they fight, argue, and get on each other’s nerves, but there’s always a lot of love in the end.

The tight bonds from these beloved shows are downright relatable, and some of the most famous siblings in Hollywood have proven that they are just like them, too. Take a look at the Hemsworth brothers, for example. Chris and Liam Hemsworth, who have both become highly successful within their respective movie careers, love messing with one another as most brothers do. In 2015, the Thor star posted an Instagram photo of his little brother’s cover of Men’s Health but doodled all over his face. Liam got back at his brother by posting his own Instagram photo of a defaced Vanity Fair cover, featuring Chris. And, who knows what hilarity goes down when they’re both with their eldest brother, Luke… and yes, for those who didn’t know, there are actually three Hemsworth brothers!

Kate and Rooney Mara

Kate and Rooney Mara are the great-granddaughters of New York Giants founder Tim Mara and Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney Jr. Although they decided not to venture into the world of sports, the sisters have made thriving careers in Hollywood.

During an interview with ABC News, Kate shared that, unlike her younger sister Rooney, she wanted to be an actor since she was a kid. She landed her first role in a 1997 episode of Law & Order when she was 14. She has since gone on to star in Netflix’s House of Cards, 24, and has acted in films like Brokeback Mountain and Fantastic Four. Rooney first garnered mainstream attention with her role as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. She has since been nominated for two prestigious Academy Awards.

While some people would pit these two sisters against each other, Kate has never seen it that way. She told The Guardian, “I just feel so grateful that we’re both living our dreams successfully, and to be able to share that with someone you grew up with — it’s really special.”

Mary-Kate, Ashley, and Elizabeth Olsen

Elizabeth Olsen was once known as the youngest sister of the famous Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, but that has changed. While Elizabeth did star alongside her sisters in their 1994 film How the West Was Fun, it wasn’t until 2011 that she returned to acting with lead roles in Silent House and Martha Marcy May Marlene.

Speaking with Harper’s Bazaar, Elizabeth admitted to the pressure of finding her own success in the same industry where her twin sisters had already thrived. Her hard work paid off when she was cast as Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Olsen twins have since become fashion designers with their label, The Row. Elizabeth told The Independent in 2022 that she’s incredibly proud of them: “I think my sisters are some of the most amazing people to look at, with what they’ve created for themselves… I do think that came from them having such a healthy perspective — I think it has informed how I conduct myself.”

Timothée and Pauline Chalamet

Timothée Chalamet rose to fame with his Oscar-nominated performance in Call Me By Your Name. But fewer people realize that his sister, Pauline Chalamet, was acting before him.

Pauline’s first role was in 1999’s One Life to Live. She has since starred in French shorts, The King of Staten Island (2020), and Mindy Kaling’s The Sex Lives of College Girls (2021). While Timothée’s fame has led to romantic rumors and red carpets, Pauline remains grounded. She told W Magazine, “I guess it’s kind of crazy, but it doesn’t affect my life at all.”

Despite the differences in public attention, the siblings remain close and supportive. Pauline told Vanity Fair, “[I’m] in awe of the work that he does,” and Timothée regularly supports her work, attending her premieres.

Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell

Finneas O’Connell has played a considerable part in his sister Billie Eilish’s meteoric rise. In 2015, he uploaded Billie singing his track Ocean Eyes to SoundCloud — and the rest is history.

Finneas produced and co-wrote all of Billie’s debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which swept the 2020 Grammys. He even won Producer of the Year. They teamed up again for her second album, Happier Than Ever. Meanwhile, Finneas released his own album, Optimist, and has co-written songs for Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, and Justin Bieber.

Their partnership is rooted in trust and comfort. As Finneas said, “She doesn’t like going to some big studio… So by default, we always make good music together.”

Benji and Joel Madden

Twin brothers Joel and Benji Madden formed the pop-punk band Good Charlotte, debuting in 2000. Their second album, The Young and the Hopeless, was a breakout success with hits like Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.

After a hiatus in 2010, the brothers launched The Madden Brothers and later revived Good Charlotte. Joel once told People, “He’s my best friend… having someone on your team [helps] because the world has a very different perception of you than the person you really are.”

Their edgy image softened after both married Hollywood stars — Joel to Nicole Richie, and Benji to Cameron Diaz.
