Hilaria Baldwin and her stepdaughter, Ireland Baldwin, share a special relationship that has evolved over the years. Hilaria became Ireland’s stepmother in 2012 after marrying Alec Baldwin, who was previously married to Kim Basinger. Alec and Kim welcomed Ireland in October 1995. Before tying the knot with Alec, Hilaria made sure to gain Ireland’s approval.
“When I met her, I told Alec, ‘If she doesn’t like me, I am not staying,’” she revealed in a March 2025 episode of The Baldwins. “I refused to be the wicked stepmother. My role was not to enter a family and create problems.”

“I never tried to be her mom, and I think that’s important. We are just like girlfriends,” she told Us Weekly in March 2020. “Sometimes she calls me for advice, sometimes I call her. We’ve never had a single bad moment in our relationship.”
Ensuring Ireland felt included among her younger siblings was also a priority for Hilaria. “I respect boundaries, but I always remind her that she is just as important as my biological children,” she emphasized. “She was an only child for a long time, and that transition needed to feel seamless.”
Embracing the Role of Stepmother
“There are so many stories about wicked stepmothers, and I wanted to make sure I did right by the family I was joining,” she explained in an August 2019 Instagram post. “I love my stepdaughter just as much as my biological children, and I become fiercely protective when I see comments suggesting otherwise.”
She stressed the importance of respecting Ireland’s existing family structure.
“She has a great mother, whom I respect tremendously. My job was never to replace that but to support her in a way that worked for everyone.”

“She is a good person,” Ireland stated in a December 2020 Instagram Story. “She has always respected my relationship with my dad, and I have a great relationship with her. She’s an amazing mother and takes great care of my dad. That’s what truly matters to me.”
