Gal Gadot and Matthias Schoenaerts are teaming up for a gripping World War II thriller titled Ruin, directed by Niki Caro. The screenplay, written by Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo, topped the prestigious Black List in 2017.
Plot and Production Details
Set in post-war Germany, Ruin follows a former concentration camp prisoner (Gadot) who joins forces with a disillusioned German soldier (Schoenaerts). Together, they seek revenge against a rogue Nazi Schutzstaffel unit.
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in early 2026. The Veterans will manage international sales and introduce the film to buyers at Cannes this month. Meanwhile, UTA Independent Film Group, WME Independent, and CAA Media Finance are handling U.S. rights.
Who’s Involved
Director Niki Caro is also producing the film, along with Marc Butan for MadRiver Pictures, and Gal Gadot and Jason Varsano for Pilot Wave Motion Pictures. Executive producers include Gillian Hormel, Mary Aloe, and the Firpo brothers. Evan Powell will oversee the film on behalf of MadRiver.
Other projects on The Veterans’ Cannes slate include James Gray’s Paper Tiger and Christian Gudegast’s Empire State, starring Gerard Butler. Last year, they presented Emilia Perez and I’m Still Here at the same festival.
Cast and Crew Updates
Gadot is currently filming The Runner for MGM Amazon Studios. She recently completed Hand of Dante, directed by Julian Schnabel, and appeared in Disney’s Snow White earlier this year.
Schoenaerts is shooting Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He will also appear in The Old Guard 2 and Terrence Malick’s The Way of the Wind.
As for the Firpos, they’re developing the Amazon series Butch & Sundance, which will star Glen Powell and Regé-Jean Page.
Gadot is represented by WME and Sloane Offer, while Schoenaerts is with CAA. Caro is repped by UTA, and the Firpos by CAA and Untitled.
