Erin Brockovich’s Grandkids Discover Her Legacy: A Surprising Movie Moment

Erin Brockovich recently experienced a heartwarming moment when she walked in on her grandkids watching the iconic 2000 film Erin Brockovich. “I walked in on my grandkids watching Erin Brockovich,” Brockovich, 64, exclusively told Us Weekly while promoting her role as a Global Ambassador for Made By Dyslexia. “They asked, ‘That’s you? So, Julia Roberts is playing you, but that’s not you?’ I told them, ‘Yes, it is me! She’s playing me!’”

Brockovich became a global icon after Roberts, 57, portrayed her in the critically acclaimed film about her legal battle against Pacific Gas and Electric in Hinkley, California. Roberts’ performance earned her the Best Actress Oscar.

Family First: Erin Brockovich as a Grandmother

While the movie showcased her activism, Brockovich’s daily life revolves around her family, including her four grandchildren. (She shares daughter Elizabeth, 34, with her second husband, Steven Brockovich, and son Matt, 42, and daughter Katie, 30, with her first husband, Shawn Brown.)

“They don’t think much of it because, to them, I’m just Gigi,” Brockovich said of her grandkids. “But as they get older, they ask more questions. It’s a surreal experience.”

Even after 25 years, Brockovich is thrilled that her story remains relevant.

“It’s always inspiring when an underdog rises up, right?” she reflected. “I was 31, a single mother of three. Now, I’m 64 and a grandmother of four. I’m proud the message still resonates.”

Advocating for Dyslexia Awareness

Brockovich, who has dyslexia, is using her platform to raise awareness about the strengths of dyslexic thinkers. As a Global Ambassador for Made By Dyslexia, a global charity founded by Kate Griggs, she emphasizes the need for better educational support.

“There are a billion dyslexics worldwide who often go unnoticed, especially in the education system,” Brockovich explained. “They think differently, but they’re often misunderstood. We need to recognize their talents. If we bring them together, the impact will be incredible.”

In addition to her advocacy, Brockovich recently appeared on Griggs’ podcast, “Lessons in Dyslexic Thinking,” discussing her experiences and mission.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am about this work,” she added. “It’s some of the most significant work we can do on a global level.”
