Drew Barrymore’s 1995 Playboy magazine cover resurfaces, sparking playful banter with her daughter’s witty remarks

Drew Barrymore found herself in a bit of a dilemma regarding her 1995 Playboy cover and her 11-year-old daughter Olive’s fashion choices, as the actor and talk show host revealed on Tuesday.

Sharing her experience with Christina Aguilera during an interview in Las Vegas for “The Drew Barrymore Show,” Barrymore recounted, “My daughter wants to wear a crop top. I’ll say no and she’ll go, ‘You were on the cover of Playboy.'”

Aguilera, a five-time Grammy award-winning artist with a residency at the Venetian in Las Vegas, empathized, sharing her own similar experience with her daughter.

“I knew it was coming the day I wore chaps,” she quipped. “My daughter wants to wear a crop top, too. And I am just like, ‘Can we just pull it down?'”

Aguilera further mentioned that rather than solely concentrating on her 9-year-old daughter Summer Rain’s clothing preferences, she aims to convey the idea that there are “certain people out there with good intentions and bad intentions.”

“I don’t want to instill fear in her, making her believe that everyone is a bad person,” Aguilera explained. “However, I believe it’s crucial for her to possess a strong sense of self and feel empowered about her body, including her sexuality, eventually.”

Barrymore and Aguilera have no regrets

Regarding their provocative pasts, both the actor and the singer expressed that they have no regrets about their decisions and hope their daughters won’t either.

“I cherished every moment of it,” Barrymore remarked about her Playboy photo shoot back in 1995, when she was 20 years old.

“We were expressing ourselves in a way that felt authentic to us,” Aguilera explained. “We didn’t do it to please others.”

Both hope to instill in their daughters a sense of confidence and self-acceptance as they mature.

“We didn’t do it to conform to anyone else’s standards, despite the labels and judgments,” Aguilera continued. “There’s empowerment in being a woman and embracing your body, and everything that makes you feel confident.”

Barrymore

Barrymore has two children, Olive and Frankie, with her ex-husband Will Kopelman, while Aguilera shares daughter Summer Rain with her fiancé Matt Rutler and son Max Liron with her ex-husband Jordan Bratman.

Aguilera mentioned that she discusses her past experiences with her children in a manner that’s appropriate for their age and understanding. During the interview, she encouraged Barrymore to do the same.

Both agreed that growing up with a free-spirited mindset brought them happiness, but acknowledged that it’s not always simple for their children to follow in their footsteps.
