Doja Cat Responds to Criticism of Her Oscars Performance: “A Bitch Hit Some Flats

Doja Cat is standing her ground after facing criticism for her performance at the 2025 Oscars.

The 29-year-old artist took to Instagram on Monday, March 3, to address reactions to her rendition of “Diamonds Are Forever” during a special James Bond tribute at the Academy Awards.

“Thanks to the Academy Awards and Vanity Fair for having me,” she captioned a post featuring her in a dazzling, gold-sequined Balmain gown from the Vanity Fair Oscar party.

“I never get to sing like that, and what I did was brave and scary as f— for me. I know a lot of people didn’t like it, but a lot of people did, and I feel good that I pushed myself. The song is a classic, and I put a lot of work into it, but the nerves got to me, and a bitch hit some flats.”

Despite the mixed reactions, she remained positive:
“I can’t wait to do something like that again. What a blessing that was. I feel amazing about the whole thing. Bye. ”

A Star-Studded Bond Tribute

The Oscars’ James Bond tribute featured a powerful lineup, including Doja Cat, Raye, and BLACKPINK’s Lisa.

  • Lisa, 27, kicked things off with a performance of “Live and Let Die” (from the 1973 Bond film).
  • Doja Cat followed with “Diamonds Are Forever” (originally sung by Shirley Bassey in 1971).
  • Raye, 27, wrapped up the medley with “Skyfall”, the Oscar-winning theme from the 2012 Bond movie.

While the performance received praise from many fans, others were not as impressed. Some critics took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disappointment.

“Shirley Bassey deserves an apology on so many levels. Why was this approved?” one user complained.

Another wrote, “That’s a really tough song to replicate, and I don’t think she was the right artist for this one.”

Fans Come to Doja’s Defense

Despite the backlash, many Doja Cat fans rushed to her defense.

“She was frickin’ great! The entire Bond medley was powerful and awesome,” one supporter posted.

Ahead of the Oscars, the official Academy Awards X account had teased the performance, clarifying that Doja Cat, Lisa, and Raye would not be performing their recent collaboration “Born Again” but instead delivering a legendary tribute.

Though unexpected, their inclusion added a modern twist to the Bond legacy, and regardless of criticism, Doja Cat remains proud of pushing herself artistically.
