Dave Coulier had two reasons to celebrate on March 27: the birth of his grandson and a life-changing phone call telling him he was cancer-free.
The Full House star, 65, opened up about the emotional day on the April 18 episode of the How Rude, Tanneritos! podcast, hosted by former co-stars Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber.
“I got the good news the day the baby was born,” Coulier shared. “So I heard the news and I was so excited, and then [my son] Luc called us and said, ‘Hey, the baby just was born.’ It was really amazing, you know? Just too much to take in.”
A New Chapter
Luc Coulier, 34, and his wife Alex welcomed their son Chance Lee on March 27, as first reported by Parade. The newborn weighed in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces. Coulier, who shares Luc with ex-wife Jayne Modean, said he’s planning to meet his grandson in late April.
“He’s a really healthy, great little baby,” Coulier said proudly. The comedian and actor lives in Michigan with his wife Melissa Coulier, while Luc is based in Sacramento, working as a FedEx pilot.
A Fight He Never Expected
Coulier was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in October 2024, and has since been open about the painful and exhausting journey through chemotherapy.
“There were times where I felt like, ‘I don’t know how many more of these I can do,’” he admitted. “Your hair falls out, you get neuropathy, cramps, dizziness, vertigo. They say they have to kill you in order to save your life.”
A Partner Through It All
Through the darkest days of treatment, Coulier leaned heavily on his wife Melissa, 41. “She took care of me,” he recalled. “I’d have night sweats and she’d go, ‘We gotta change these sheets again.’ She managed everything — cold compresses, meals, medication.”
His voice full of emotion, he added, “I learned how incredible my wife is. And I also learned just how much a positive attitude can help you plow through things.”
As Coulier now begins his next chapter — as a grandfather and cancer survivor — he says he feels immense gratitude. “It was an amazing day,” he said again, thinking back to March 27. “A new life beginning… and my life beginning again, in a way.”
