Mel Gibson’s Loss: A Home Reduced to Ashes

Mel Gibson revealed during a telephone interview with NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” that his Malibu home burned down while he was away recording a podcast with Joe Rogan in Austin, Texas.

“It’s devastating. It’s emotional,” Gibson said. “You live there for a long time, and you accumulate so much stuff.” With dark humor, he added, “I’ve been relieved from the burden of my stuff because it’s all in cinders.”

Gibson and his girlfriend evacuated before the fire worsened. She stayed in California while he traveled to Texas. When he returned, he found only charred remains. “I have never seen a place so perfectly burned,” Gibson remarked. “You could put it in an urn.”

Other celebrities have also opened up about their losses due to the fires. These include the Eaton Fire centered around Altadena, northeast of central Los Angeles.

Mandy Moore’s Miraculous Escape
Mandy Moore shared photos of her damaged property on Instagram . She wrote, “Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. It’s not livable but mostly intact.” Moore noted that they lost their garage and back house to the flames.

Billy Crystal’s Heartbreak
Billy Crystal expressed his heartbreak in a statement to CNN. “Words cannot describe the enormity of the devastation we are witnessing,” he said. Crystal and his wife Janice had lived in their Pacific Palisades home since 1979. They raised their children and grandchildren there. “Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away,” he added.

Ricki Lake’s Dream Home Gone
Ricki Lake mourned the loss of her “dream home” in Malibu on Instagram . She described it as “heaven on earth.” Lake wrote, “It was the place where we planned to grow old together. We never took our heavenly spot on the bluff overlooking our beloved Malibu for granted, not even for one second.”
