CBS has officially canceled S.W.A.T. for the third time, bringing an end to the long-running action drama after eight seasons. The network announced the decision on March 6, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.
Showrunner Andrew Dettmann expressed his disappointment, stating, “It’s heartbreaking news, primarily because it’s been such an immense pleasure working with this cast and crew. They are truly an extraordinary group of people who have worked so hard and overcome countless challenges.”
Executive producer Shawn Ryan also shared his gratitude: “It’s been an extraordinary privilege to tell the stories of Hondo and 20-Squad. I thank our fans, Shemar Moore, the cast, our producers, Sony Pictures Television, CBS Studios, and most of all, our dedicated crew.”
CBS had previously canceled the series after season six in 2023 but later reversed the decision, renewing it for a seventh and final season. However, in May 2024, the network surprised fans by extending it for an eighth season.
Shemar Moore, the show’s lead star, reacted to the news on Instagram, calling the cancellation “sad” and “frustrating.” In a heartfelt video, he acknowledged the show’s unique history of being canceled and revived twice, saying, “Not many shows can say that.”

Moore delivered an emotional farewell speech to the cast and crew, urging them to be proud of what they accomplished. He also addressed CBS directly, stating, “I know it’s about money, optics, politics… but I don’t think this is the right .” Despite his disappointment, he thanked the network for giving him opportunities throughout his 31-year career.
With the cancellation now seemingly final, S.W.A.T. fans must say goodbye to the beloved series, which left a lasting impact with its gripping action and compelling storytelling.
