CBS is expanding the Blue Bloods universe with its highly anticipated spinoff, Boston Blue. Fans of the long-running police procedural have been eager to learn more about the new series, and with details emerging, excitement continues to build.
A New Chapter for the Blue Bloods Legacy
Since its debut in 2010, Blue Bloods has captivated audiences with the lives of the Reagan family, many of whom serve in the NYPD. Rumors of the show’s potential end began circulating in 2023, especially after the cast and producers agreed to a 25% pay cut to secure another season.
In April 2023, Donnie Wahlberg expressed his hopes for Blue Bloods to achieve the same longevity as Law & Order: SVU.
“Ice-T and Mariska Hargitay have been going for so many years, and we hope to last just as long,” Wahlberg told Us Weekly. “I try to stay present with each episode and not worry too much about what’s coming next.”

Although Blue Bloods officially ended in December 2024, CBS wasted no time in announcing Boston Blue, fulfilling Wahlberg’s wish for a continuation of the Reagan family’s story.
What Is Boston Blue About?
The new spinoff follows Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) as he transitions from the NYPD to the Boston Police Department. According to the official logline, Danny takes on a new position in Boston, where he partners with Detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a respected law enforcement family.
The series boasts an impressive production team, including executive producers Brandon Sonnier, Brandon Margolis, Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Wahlberg himself.
When Will Boston Blue Premiere?
CBS confirmed in February 2025 that Boston Blue had received a straight-to-series order for the 2025-2026 television season. It will join a lineup of returning CBS favorites, including Tracker, Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, Hollywood Squares, Elsbeth, Fire Country, NCIS, NCIS: Origins, Ghosts, NCIS: Sydney, and Matlock.
Will Other Blue Bloods Characters Return?
So far, Wahlberg is the only confirmed Blue Bloods cast member appearing in Boston Blue. However, many of his former co-stars have expressed interest in joining the spinoff in some capacity.
“I would do anything with these people. If they need me to wear a wig and play a different character, I’ll do it,” Ray told TV Insider in October 2024.
