Blake Lively has filed to dismiss Justin Baldoni’s multi-million dollar lawsuit, escalating their ongoing legal dispute over It Ends With Us.
Lively’s Legal Response
“This lawsuit is a blatant misuse of the legal system,” her attorneys Mike Gottlieb and Esra Hudson stated. “California law protects victims who speak out against harassment or retaliation. It prohibits legal action against those who share their experiences, whether in court or the media.”
They also pointed out three major legal issues in Baldoni’s case.
“This retaliatory lawsuit violates litigation privilege, fair report privilege, and sexual harassment privilege,” Lively’s legal team explained. “Additionally, California law mandates that those who file baseless defamation claims must pay damages. Because of this, Wayfarer Studios and others involved will likely face financial consequences.”
Legal Protections for Speaking Out
A spokesperson for Lively emphasized the broader impact of the case.
“Blake Lively is not the only person being sued for defamation after speaking out about workplace harassment,” they said. “This is why California recently passed AB 933. It ensures individuals are not financially ruined for speaking up.”
They also stressed that the law protects others from similar lawsuits.
Baldoni’s Legal Team Responds
Justin Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, strongly criticized Lively’s motion.
“Blake Lively is trying to escape the legal mess she created,” Freedman told “The law exists to protect the innocent, not to be twisted by wealthy celebrities. We will hold her accountable for falsely accusing my client of harassment and retaliation.”
The Ongoing Legal Battle
Lively first sued Baldoni in December 2024, accusing him of sexual harassment and attempting to damage her reputation. Baldoni denied the allegations.
In January 2025, he responded with a $400 million defamation lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and her publicist. The couple denied the claims. On March 18, Reynolds also moved to dismiss the lawsuit.
