Only Fools and Horses Legend Nicholas Lyndhurst Faces Major Setback as Frasier Revival Gets Canceled

Nicholas Lyndhurst, the beloved actor from Only Fools and Horses, has been dealt a devastating blow as Paramount+ unexpectedly cancels the Frasier revival after just two seasons.

Frasier Reboot Canceled After Two Seasons

The highly anticipated Frasier reboot, which premiered in October 2023, has been abruptly axed by Paramount+, leaving fans and cast members in shock. The show wrapped up its second season just two months ago, but despite its dedicated audience, Paramount+ has confirmed that a third season will not be happening.

CBS Studios Shopping Frasier to Other Networks

Although Paramount+ has pulled the plug, CBS Studios is actively seeking other networks to continue the series. Leading streaming platforms like Prime Video and Hulu are rumored to be potential buyers since they already stream the original Frasier episodes. Additionally, NBC could show interest, considering it was the home of the original Emmy-winning series.

Nicholas Lyndhurst’s Role in Frasier Revival

The reboot brought back Kelsey Grammer as Frasier Crane, now living in Boston and working as a professor at Harvard University. Nicholas Lyndhurst took on the role of Alan Cornwall, Frasier’s witty college friend and fellow academic.

Other notable cast members included:

  • Toks Olagundoye as the head of Harvard’s psychology department
  • Jess Salgueiro as Freddy’s roommate
  • Anders Keith as Frasier’s quirky nephew, David
  • Patricia Heaton, who joined in Season 2 as Holly, a potential love interest for Frasier

Why Was Frasier Reboot Canceled?

Despite its legacy, the Frasier revival struggled to match the success of the original series, which won 37 Primetime Emmy Awards. The reboot managed to secure three Emmy nominations, but it failed to win any major awards.

Lead star Kelsey Grammer had ambitious plans for the series, telling Variety in 2023 that he hoped to create “at least another 100 episodes”. He expressed his passion for the show, stating, “These are wonderful characters, and I want to see where they go. I want to see what happens to Frasier.”

How Nicholas Lyndhurst Reacted to the News

Nicholas Lyndhurst, best known for playing Rodney Trotter in Only Fools and Horses, had spoken enthusiastically about his experience on Frasier. He previously described the opportunity as “heart-stoppingly wonderful” and admitted that he often had to pinch himself when working on set.

Speaking to RadioTimes, Lyndhurst shared:

“It’s absolutely wonderful to be here for now. I’m in my mid-60s – at this stage of my career, I wasn’t expecting to be walking through the gates of Paramount Pictures every morning.”

The cancellation is undoubtedly a huge disappointment for Nicholas Lyndhurst, who had embraced this exciting new chapter in his acting career.

Where to Watch Frasier and the Revival

For fans who still want to enjoy Frasier’s classic humor, both the original series and the two-season reboot remain available for streaming on Paramount+. The fate of a third season now rests in the hands of streaming giants like Prime Video, Hulu, and NBC.

Stay tuned for more updates on whether Frasier finds a new home!
