Lauryn Hill was honored with the Living Legend Icon Award and a major tribute performance.
“Let’s celebrate my baby sister, Ms. Lauryn Hill,” said Tanya Trotter of the War and Treaty as the duo (also featuring Michael Trotter Jr.) opened the tribute to Hill — which also featured Doechii, SZA, Tierra Whack, Tems, Doja Cat, Nas, Lizzo, Rapsody, Alexia Jayy, Queen Latifah, Common and Hill’s children Selah, Joshua “YG” and Zion Marley.
The group of superstars highlighted songs including “Ready or Not,” “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” “Superstar,” “Doo Wop (That Thing),” “Killing Me Softly,” “Lost One” and more.
Lauryn enjoyed the performance from her seat, singing along and cooling herself off with an electronic fan. “Respect the queen of [New] Jersey,” declared Latifah at the end of the performance.
