Zack Ryder came back to the WWE main roster on the November 14 episode of WWE SmackDown as part of the John Cena Tournament. Ryder, who has been wrestling as Matt Cardona since leaving WWE in 2020, was a surprising opponent for LA Knight, but he couldn’t defeat the former United States Champion.
A lot of people online reacted to Ryder’s comeback. Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, remarked on X that Ryder showed how important it is to make the most of every opportunity.
Chelsea Green, Ryder’s wife, was thrilled to see her husband return to WWE. The Women’s United States Champion and AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion was so proud that she posted about it on X.
After 15 years with WWE, Ryder was let go in 2020. Since being released, he has become a well-known figure on the independent scene and calls himself the “Indy God.” Matt Cardona is a former NWA World Champion and GCW World Champion who continues to prove his talent.
Before SmackDown, Cardona joked about being in the John Cena competition. His time in the tournament to find John Cena’s last opponent is over, but it’s still unclear if this is the last time we’ll see Zack Ryder in WWE.
