Morgan Wallen Launches ‘God’s Country’ Merch Line Following SNL Walk-Off

Morgan Wallen, the country music star, has transformed his controversial early exit from Saturday Night Live into a business opportunity. He has launched a new merchandise line featuring his viral quote, “Get Me to God’s Country.”

He shared an Instagram post from “Club Wallen,” an “official fan destination for all things Morgan Wallen,” which read, “Get me to God’s country shop.morganwallen.com.” This post referenced his Instagram Story from March 29, following his Saturday Night Live appearance.

The “Smile” singer sparked discussion when he walked off stage before the show’s closing credits fully aired. Typically, musical guests and hosts remain on stage to interact with the cast as the credits roll.

Controversy Surrounding Wallen’s SNL Appearance

After his abrupt departure, Variety reported that Wallen declined to participate in a musical sketch titled “Big Dumb Line.” The skit, featuring Mikey Madison, Chloe Fineman, and Bowen Yang, satirized the trend of waiting in long lines in New York City. Wallen was initially set to sing the bridge of the Euro pop song, but Joe Jonas took his place.

Morgan Wallen’s Past Issues with SNL

Wallen has a complicated history with Saturday Night Live. In October 2020, the show disinvited him after videos surfaced of him partying at the University of Alabama during the COVID-19 pandemic, violating safety protocols.

“I was in New York City, in a hotel room, getting ready for SNL this Saturday when I got a call from the show letting me know that I will no longer be able to play,” Wallen explained in a now-deleted Instagram video. “That’s because of COVID protocols, which I understand. I wasn’t positive for COVID, but my actions were short-sighted.”

He later made his SNL debut, with the show humorously referencing his disinvitation in a skit. In February 2021, Wallen faced backlash again when a video showed him using a racial slur. His record label suspended his contract, and he publicly apologized in a YouTube video, saying, “I let so many people down. I let my parents down … I let my son down, and I’m not OK with that.”

Wallen’s new merchandise line, which includes two blue-and-white hats and a white t-shirt, leverages his latest viral moment. His ability to turn controversy into opportunity continues to fuel his brand.
